Cheryl Edwards James

Cheryl is a staff attorney for Chapter 13 Trustee Beverly M. Burden. During her nearly 14 years working with Trustee Burden, she’s covered cases in every division in the Eastern District of Kentucky. Presently, Cheryl focuses on cases filed in the Ashland and Covington divisions.

Prior to joining Trustee Burden’s staff, Cheryl worked with the bankruptcy court in the EDKY on two occasions, including serving on the staff of Judges Joseph M. Scott, Jr. and Joe Lee. Cheryl led a nationwide team as a program manager for a national information architecture project sponsored by the National Association of Chief Information Officers immediately after graduating law school. She joined Greenebaum, Doll & McDonald, PLLC (now Dentons Bingham Greenebaum) after her first stint with the bankruptcy court. Prior to attending law school, Cheryl worked in information technology as a systems engineer for both a small locally owned systems integration company and for one of the country’s largest IT corporations at the time.

Cheryl obtained a B.A. in computer science from Transylvania University with minors in business and mathematics. She obtained her juris doctorate from the University of Kentucky College of Law (now the J. David Rosenberg College of Law). She is admitted to practice in the Eastern District of Kentucky and the Western District of Kentucky and is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and the John Rowe Chapter of the National Bar Association. Cheryl is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Lexington having served as president and in numerous other leadership positions during her active years of league membership. Cheryl previously served as president, board member, and as a long-time volunteer for God’s Pantry Food Bank.

In her spare time, she enjoys her workouts, travel, civic engagement, and spending time outdoors. Cheryl has one son who is a mechanical engineering student at the University of Cincinnati.
