Freddie Smithson, CFA, CPA, CIRA is a managing director with Strategic Liquidity Fund in Delray Beach, Fla., and has more than 35 years of experience in the capital markets. He began his career at J.P. Morgan, where he specialized in bond issuance and financial risk management using derivatives, later working in a similar capacity at BNP Paribas. Mr. Smithson served as the CFO of a hedge fund, overseeing its liquidation and returning funds to investors upon closure. Additionally, he founded a tax lien investment fund and worked with Blue Sky Capital Strategies to advise clients on capital raising efforts. Mr. Smithson has experience investing in distressed debt, such as Argentina bonds, bank loans, judgments and other illiquid distressed assets. He is an active member of the Turnaround Management Association, Association of Insolvency & Restructuring Advisors, ABI, National Association of Federal Equity Receivers and the CFA Society of South Florida, for which he also serves on the board. Mr. Smithson has been a guest lecturer at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He also is an adjunct professor at Florida Atlantic University School of Business. Mr. Smithson received his B.B.A. from the University of Michigan Stephen M. Ross School of Business and his M.B.A. from New York University Stern School of Business.
