Bio

Greg M. Gartland is a partner in the Finance Department of Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP in Chicago. He has nearly 25 years of experience advising clients in finance and insolvency-related matters, including lending transactions, out-of-court workouts, bankruptcy cases, remedies exercises and distressed mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Gartland represents lenders, agents and other stakeholders in distressed transactions and special situations, including change-of-control restructurings, proxy exercises, foreclosures and chapter 11 bankruptcy cases. His clients include numerous private credit and sponsor finance lenders, including Ares Capital Corp., Twin Brook Capital Partners, Bank of Montreal and other direct lenders. He has experience in restructurings across virtually all industries, particularly in restructuring matters in multi-site healthcare. Mr. Gartland has been recognized by The Legal 500 US as a “Key Lawyer” for Commercial Lending for 2025, and he was recognized among the Lawdragon 500 Leading Global Bankruptcy Lawyers from 2024-26. He received his B.A. in 1999 from Siena College, his J.D. in 2002 from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and his LL.M. in 2003 from Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam.
