Hon. William C. Hillman

William C. Hillman is a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Massachusetts in Boston, initially appointed in 1991 and reappointed in 2005. He served as Chief Judge from 1998-2002 and cur- rently serves as Chief Judge on the First Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel. Prior to taking the bench, he practiced for more than 33 years in the areas of commercial and insolvency law. Judge Hillman is the author of six books on bankruptcy and commercial law subjects, including Documenting Secured Trans- actions (2d Ed.), and co-author of Bankruptcy Deskbook (4th Ed.), both published by The Practising Law Institute. He has also authored more than 30 articles on legal subjects. Judge Hillman is a frequent lecturer on bankruptcy and business law issues, a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy and a life member of the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws. He received both his J.D. cum laude and LL.M. from Boston University and served as note editor of its law review.
