Joanna Diane Caytas

Joanna Diane Caytas is an attorney in the Bankruptcy, Restructuring & Creditors’ Rights section at Porter Hedges LLP in Houston. Her practice focuses on all aspects of bankruptcy and restructuring, with a particular emphasis on debtor representation in complex chapter 11 and chapter 15 cases across many industries, including crypto, energy, transportation and hospitality. She also has experience in special investigations as well as bankruptcy litigation and appeals, including representing creditors’ committees. Ms. Caytas co-chairs ABI’s Commercial and Regulatory Law Committee, and serves as vice chair of the Houston Network of the International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC) and executive board member of The Honorable Artur L. Moller – David B. Foltz Jr. American Inn of Court. She also is a member of the TMA and INSOL. Ms. Caytas draws on her prior experience as a tax associate at an international law firm, where she focused on tax planning for complex transactions, including corporate restructurings, private and public mergers and acquisitions, and private equity, as well as the formation and operation of private investment funds, including those investing in energy and in digital assets and blockchain technologies. Her research on blockchain was cited by the European Parliament. Previously, Ms. Caytas served as a judicial law clerk to Hon. Danny J. Boggs on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, sitting by designation also on the Ninth and Eleventh Circuits. She also served as a judicial intern to Hon. Beryl A. Howell, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Ms. Caytas received her B.A. in mathematics summa cum laude from Columbia University, her J.D. from Columbia Law School, her LL.M. in taxation from New York University School of Law, her M.Sc. in nanotechnology with distinction from the University of Oxford, and an Advanced Certificate in Global Business Law and Governance obtained at Sciences Po and University of Paris I: Panthéon-Sorbonne.
