Lara R. Sheikh
Bio
Lara R. Sheikh is a bankruptcy legal analyst with 9fin, which she joined in September 2025 from the DOJ’s U.S. Trustee Program, where she served as a policy and communications specialist in the Executive Office. She writes about corporate bankruptcy law developments facing distressed credit market participants for 9fin, a next generation resource for leveraged finance professionals. After 14 years in practice at Pillsbury Winthrop and Togut, Segal & Segal in NYC and as a law clerk to Bankruptcy Judge Stuart Bernstein in the SDNY, Ms. Sheikh pivoted to writing about bankruptcy law for 10 years as a senior specialist legal editor for Thomson Reuters’ Practical Law Bankruptcy & Restructuring service. She served on the board of IWIRC New York as Substantive Events co-chair from 2016-17, currently serves on the NY City Bar Bankruptcy Corporation Reorganization Committee, and has been an ABI member since 2004. Ms. Sheikh received her A.B. in politics and Spanish from Mount Holyoke College in 1988 and her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 2001, where she served as a law review editor and recent graduate trustee.
