Boris J. Steffen, CPA, ABV, CGMA, ASA, CDBV is a director and the Southeast Leader of the Financial Investigations and Dispute Advisory Services practice of RSM US LLP in Mc Lean, Va., where he serves as a financial advisor and testifying expert for corporations, financial institutions, government agencies, investment funds and law firms requiring assistance in conducting investigations and resolving disputes pertaining to interests and claims involving bankruptcy and restructuring, as well as antitrust and competition policy, commercial contracts, fraud, intellectual property, international arbitration, mergers and acquisitions, securities, valuation and tax controversy matters. Industries in which he has advised include the aerospace, aggregates, asbestos, automobile, battery, beef, biotechnology, business services, broadcasting, cable, chemicals, consumer products, construction, defense, document management, electronic imaging, financial services and banking, food and beverage, health care, HVAC, independent power, IT, insurance, internet, industrial packaging and paper, newspaper, pharmaceutical, oil and gas, printing, pumps and controls, real estate, retail, semiconductor, software, steel, telecom, tobacco, electric utility and water sectors. Mr. Steffen has written widely on accounting, corporate finance, valuation and solvency topics for publications of the ABA Section of Litigation Expert Witnesses Committee, Law360. com, ABI Journal, Financier Worldwide and Journal of the Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors, and has lectured or spoken in programs sponsored by American University, Washington College of Law, the University of San Diego School of Law, the Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors, ABI and the Turnaround Management Association. Mr. Steffen has consulted or testified in high-stakes merger-and-acquisition litigation in the Delaware Court of Chancery and in bankruptcy disputes and various other investigations around the country. He co-chairs the Appraisal and Valuation Subcommittee of the ABA Section of Litigation Expert Witnesses Committee, and is a coordinating editor of the ABI Journal's Value & Cents column. Prior to his work in consulting, Mr. Steffen worked in finance with Inland Steel Industries, Inc., in antitrust and competition policy with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Competition, and in corporate development with U.S. Generating, Inc. Mr. Steffen received his B.S. in finance and a bachelor of music in trumpet performance from DePaul University, and his Master of Management with specializations in accounting and finance from the Kellogg School of Management of Northwestern University.
