Mr. Howard Seife

Howard Seife is a partner in Chadbourne & Parke LLP's New York office and chairs the firm's global bankruptcy and financial restructuring practice. He has represented NextEra Energy, one of the largest energy companies in the U.S., in its potential acquisition of Oncor out of the chapter 11 of Energy Future Holdings, and recently represented Chief Bankruptcy Judge Arthur J. Gonzalez in his capacity as the court-appointed examiner in the ResCap chapter 11 case. He also represented the creditors' commitee in the Tribune Company chapter 11. Mr. Seife has particular experience in cross-border insolvencies, having commenced, in the first major test of chapter 15, a case in New York for the Russian receiver of Yukos Oil. He has obtained ancillary recognition in the U.S. for dozens of foreign proceedings from jurisdictions including Bermuda, the BVI, the U.K., Belgium, Spain, Ireland, Sweden and Australia. Mr. Seife has been listed in Chambers USA (2013-14) and in The Best Lawyers in America (2014), and his role as a leader in the innovative use of ancillary bankruptcy proceedings has been recognized in The Deal. He has also been listed in Chambers Global for his work in bankruptcy/restructuring matters, as well as in New York Super Lawyers and The Legal 500, was named one of the world's leading lawyers in Expert Guide: Insolvency and Restructuring Lawyers. In addition, Law360 recently recognized him as one of six "MVPs of the Year" in the area of bankruptcy law. Mr. Seife has written extensively on inter- national insolvency issues, recently as co-editor of Cross-Frontier Insolvency of Insurance Companies (Sweet & Maxwell) and as author of a chapter in The Law and Practice of Restructuring in the UK and US (Oxford University Press, 2011). He received his J.D. in 1978 from Georgetown University and his Master of Laws in 1983 from the London School of Economics.
