
Mr. Matthew J. McGowan
Matthew J. McGowan is a principal at the Providence, R.I., law firm of Sylvia & Kishfy, LLC. He has been appointed as a receiver in several large and complex insolvency cases, and he has extensive bankruptcy and related experience representing trustees, debtors in possession, lenders and other creditors, creditors' committees and acquirers. He represented the police and firefighter retirees in the City of Central Falls (Rhode Island) chapter 9 municipal case, and is the court-appointed Receiver in the largest receivership proceeding pending in Rhode Island, the Centre of New England receivership proceedings, in which hundreds of millions of alleged loans have been set aside as usurious. Previously, Mr. McGowan was an attorney in the U.S. Trustee's Office in Boston and later served on the panel of private trustees in Rhode Island for 12 years. He has written articles for and is a contributing author to several bankruptcy publications and has lectured on bankruptcy and insolvency law, including as an adjunct professor at Roger Williams University School of Law. Mr. McGowan received his B.S. from the University of Rhode Island in 1978 and his J.D from Catholic University of America in 1982.
