Mr. Robert J. Keach

Bio

Robert J. Keach is counsel with Verrill Dana LLP in Portland, Maine, and practices in the areas of bankruptcy, reorganization and workouts. He focuses on the representation of various parties in workouts and bankruptcy cases, including debtors, creditors, creditors’ committees, lessors and third parties acquiring troubled companies and/or their assets. He has appeared before the bankruptcy courts in the Districts of New Jersey, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Delaware, the Northern District of California, the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, among others. Mr. Keach regularly appears as a panelist on national bankruptcy, lender-liability and creditors’ rights programs, and he has authored several articles on bankruptcy and creditors’ rights appearing in the ABI Law Review, Commercial Law Journal and ABI Journal, among other publications. He is admitted to practice in both state and federal courts in Maine and Massachusetts, as well as the First, Second, Seventh and Eighth Circuit Courts of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Keach also has served as a court-appointed fee examiner and has been designated an expert witness on fee-related matters in several cases. In addition, he has served as a chapter 11 trustee and has represented court-appointed receivers in matters before state courts, including the Delaware Chancery Court. Mr. Keach is an adjunct professor at Boston College Law School, where he teaches courses on cross-border insolvency and business bankruptcy. He is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy and a past president (2009-10) of ABI, and he co-chaired ABI’s Commission to Study the Reform of Chapter 11. Mr. Keach received his J.D. in 1980 from the University of Maine.
