Bio

Seth J. Kleinman is chair of the Special Situations Practice Group and vice chair of the Bankruptcy and Restructuring Group at Benesch Law in Chicago, where he advises clients with out-of-court and in-court corporate restructuring, financing and capital markets solutions, corporate bankruptcy, and insolvency matters. His practice focuses on advising lenders, companies, boards of directors, venture-capital funds, private-equity sponsors, family offices and corporate stakeholders in high-stakes restructurings and workouts. Mr. Kleinman has a particular focus on advising syndicated lenders, collateralized loan obligations (CLOs), direct lenders, high-yield funds, institutional asset-managers, loan and bond agents, and opportunistic funds. He works across a wide range of industries, including industrials, retail, automotive, aerospace/defense, agriculture, financial services, manufacturing, media and entertainment, oil and gas, energy, mining and minerals, transportation, health care and tax-exempt entities. A member of ABI and the Turnaround Management Association (TMA), Mr. Kleinman is ranked for Bankruptcy and Creditor/Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law in The Best Lawyers in America for 2025, is recommended in the area of Corporate Restructuring in the Legal 500 US for 2024, and is ranked as Up and Coming for Bankruptcy/Restructuring – IL in Chambers USA for 2024. During law school, he was a judicial extern to Hon. Eugene Wedoff, Chief Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Mr. Kleinman received his B.A. summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania and his J.D. cum laude from Northwestern University.
