
Mr. Jonathan N. Helfat
Jonathan N. Helfat is a lawyer with Otterbourg P.C. in New York, where he specializes in the represen- tation of foreign and domestic banks, commercial finance companies, hedge funds and other specialty lenders in the restructuring of secured loan transactions, including workouts, forbearance and restructur- ing agreements, chapter 11 debtor-in-possession and "exit" financing facilities and the use of cash col- lateral. He has also had extensive experience enforcing and defending the rights of financial institutions in both state and federal court litigations. Mr. Helfat is co-general counsel to the Commercial Finance Association and co-authors a column in The Secured Lender magazine relating to current legislative and judicial developments in asset-based lending. He has also represented the Commercial Finance Associa- tion in the filing of various amicus briefs before the U.S. Supreme Court and other appellate courts relat- ing to issues affecting secured lenders. Mr. Helfat is a Fellow and Past Regent of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers, and was a member of the Bankruptcy Judge Merit Selection Panel for the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of New York. He was admitted to the New York Bar in 1972. Mr. Helfat received his B.A. from American University in 1968, his J.D. from the University of Louisville in 1971 and his LL.M. in corporate law in 1977 from New York University.
