Hon. Elizabeth W. Magner

Elizabeth W. Magner is Chief Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana in New Orleans. She was sworn in in 2005 and appointed chief judge in 2011. Previously, Judge Magner was a partner with the law firm Lemle & Kelleher, LLP. In 1995, she resigned from the firm to form her own practice. She is an associate editor of the Collier Bankruptcy Practice Guide, and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Ac- countants and the Louisiana Society of Certified Public Accountants. Judge Magner was vice chair of the ABA subcommittee on Bankruptcy Jurisdiction and Venue from 2005-07 and a member of the New Orleans Pro Bono Project. She is a frequent speaker and in 2007 was named "Woman of the Year" by New Orleans CitiBusiness. She received her B.S. in accounting from Louisiana State University in 1980 and her J.D. from the Paul Herbert Law Center in 1983.
