Charlene E. Honeywell is a U.S. District Judge for the Middle District of Florida in Orlando, appointed by President Barack Obama in November 2009, and presides over civil and criminal cases in the Tampa Division. Judge Honeywell served approximately nine years as a circuit judge for the Thir- teenth Judicial Circuit in Hillsborough County, Fla., having been appointed by Florida Gov. Jeb Bush in October 2000, where she presided over civil and family law cases. Prior to being appointed to the circuit court, Judge Honeywell was a shareholder with the Tampa law firm of Hill, Ward and Henderson, P.A. and one of the firm's trial attorneys. Her trial practice consisted primarily of the defense of complex liti- gation. She was also an assistant public defender for five years and an assistant city attorney and chief of the litigation division for the City of Tampa for seven years. Judge Honeywell is an active member and former officer of the Cheatwood Inn of Court, the Smith Litigation Inn of Court, the George Edgecomb Bar Association, the Hillsborough Association for Women Lawyers and the Hillsborough County Bar Association, among others, and she serves as trustee for the University of Florida's Levin College of Law. Judge Honeywell received her B.A. in political science in 1979 from Howard University and her J.D. in 1981 from the University of Florida's Levin College of Law.
