Mr. James P. Seery

James P. Seery, Jr. is the president of and a partner at the investment firm of River Birch Capital, LLC in New York, a global credit fund manager focused on corporate instruments from investment grade to distressed assets. He is also a member of ABI's Commission to Study the Reform of Chapter 11. Previ- ously, Mr. Seery was a partner and co-head of the Corporate Reorganization and Bankruptcy Group in Sidley & Austin's New York office. Prior to joining Sidley in mid-2009, Mr. Seery was a managing di- rector at Barclays Capital and the global head of Lehman Brothers' Fixed Income Loan business, where he was responsible for managing Lehman Brothers' Fixed Income investment grade and high-yield loan businesses, including commitments, global distribution, hedging, trading and sales portfolio manage- ment, and restructuring. Mr. Seery was also a member of Lehman Brothers' Fixed Income Operating Committee and Global Credit Products Operating Committee, as well as its High Yield Commitment and New Business Committees. Before assuming management of Lehman Brothers' loan business in 2005, he was a senior member of the Lehman High Yield and Distressed Debt groups responsible for investing and managing proprietary distressed-debt positions. From 2000-04, he ran Lehman Brothers' restructur- ing and workout businesses and was responsible for managing distressed corporate investments made by Lehman Brothers. In 1999, Mr. Seery was selected as one of the "Top Restructuring Lawyers in the U.S. Under 40" by Turnarounds & Workouts, and from 2006-08, he was a member of the board of directors of the Loan Syndications and Trading Association and is currently a member of the INSOL International Lenders Group. He received his J.D. magna cum laude in 1990 from New York Law School, where he was an editor of its law review, and his undergraduate degree from Colgate University in 1984.
