Michael H. Reed is Of Counsel in the Philadelphia office of Pepper Hamilton LLP, where he concen- trates his practice in the field of bankruptcy and insolvency law as a member of the firm's Corporate Restructuring and Bankruptcy Group. He is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy and a member of the American Law Institute. As a member of the Local Bankruptcy Rules Advisory Commit- tee of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Mr. Reed helped draft the local bankruptcy rules adopted for the district effective Feb. 1, 1999. From 1997-98, he chaired the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Bankruptcy Conference, and during 1992-93, 2000 and 2014 he served on three Bankruptcy Judge Merit Selection Committees for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, chairing the 2000 committee. Mr. Reed is past president of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and previously served on the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association. He chairs the Federal Courts Subcommit- tee of the ABA's Standing Committee on the American Judicial System and, as the Pennsylvania State Delegate, serves on the ABA's Nominating Committee. Mr. Reed has served in various leadership posi- tions in the Business Bankruptcy Committee of the ABA's Section of Business Law for more than 25 years. He also previously served on the Business Law Section's Publications Board. Mr. Reed is chair- man of the Philadelphia Board of Ethics. He lectures nationally and regionally on bankruptcy matters, has been an adjunct professor at Temple Law School and Rutgers-Camden Law School, and is a prolific author, having most recently co-authored A Practitioner's Guide to Liquidation and Litigation Trusts (ABI, 2015). Mr. Reed appeared on brief before the U.S. Supreme Court in U.S. v. Quality Stores Inc., 134 S. Ct. 1395 (2014). He received his B.A. in political science from Temple University and his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1972.
