Hon. Robert E. Larsen

Robert E. Larsen is a U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Western District of Missouri in Kansas City, appointed in 1991. He also teaches two classes as an adjunct professor at the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Law, and manages the Western District's Ross T. Roberts Trial Academy, which trains new lawyers on trial advocacy. Judge Larsen began his legal career with the U.S. Department of Justice's Criminal Division. In 1976, he transferred to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Kansas City and spent the next 15 years as an assistant U.S. attorney representing the federal government in both criminal and civil cases before the district court and court of appeals. Judge Larsen is the author of Navigating the Federal Trial, now in its 11th edition, and is a frequent lecturer on federal trial practice and evidence. He received his J.D. from the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Law in 1973.
