
Hon. Edward A. Godoy
Hon. Edward A. Godoy is a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Puerto Rico in San Juan andChief Judge of the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel for the First Circuit. Prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Godoy was a trial attorney with the U.S. Trustee Program, where he worked on chapter7 and 11 cases and focused on combating debtor fraud and creditor abuse. Before joining the Department of Justice, he practiced law at Feldstein, Gelpi & Gotay in San Juan, P.R., and specialized in federal litigation, professional liability, real estate and product liability law. He was also a foreign law trainee at Estudio Beccar Varela in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Pinheiro Neto Advogados in São Paulo,Brazil. Immediately after graduating from law school, Judge Godoy joined Stryker, Tams & Dill inNewark, N.J., as a corporate associate. He is a member of the state bars of New Jersey, New York andPuerto Rico. He has also been a panelist for seminars sponsored by ABI, the Instituto Iberoamericanode Derecho Concursal, the Puerto Rico Bar Association and the Puerto Rico Judicial Academy. JudgeGodoy received his B.S. cum laude in finance and economics from the University of Pennsylvania?sWharton School in Philadelphia and his J.D. from Columbia University Law School in New York. He also took postgraduate courses on the civil and commercial codes at the Faculty of Law of the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina.
