
Mr. John Robert Weiss
John R. Weiss is a partner in the Chicago office of Duane Morris LLP and has practiced in the area of corporate restructurings and recapitalizations, loan defaults, workouts and bankruptcies since 1985. His practice on behalf of creditors has primarily focused on representing banks, institutional investors, indenture trustees, and holders of publicly and privately placed debt securities in complex corporate and municipal situations. His practice on behalf of debtors has included, among others, companies in the restaurant, golf, hotel, steel manufacturing and trucking businesses. Mr. Weiss has been involved in troubled situations on behalf of traditional bank and finance company clients in straight loan and asset-based lending facilities, publicly traded REITs in lease transactions, institutional investor clients in negotiated secured and unsecured private placement transactions, indenture trustees for and holders of debt securities issued by multinational corporations and municipalities, and committees of creditors formed either before or after a bankruptcy case is filed. He has particular recent experience in workouts involving senior care and health care facilities, investor-owned electric utilities and sponsors/servicers of asset-securitization transactions. Mr. Weiss has represented numerous special servicers of commercial mortgage-backed securities in pursuit of their remedies in defaulted real estate loans. He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Illinois, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Central and Southern Districts of Illinois and the Western District of Wisconsin, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Seventh, Eighth and Ninth Circuits, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court. He received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in 1982 and his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law in 1985.
